EGIBL was incorporated on 20th December, 2004 with its headquarters in Karachi, Pakistan. Emirates Global Islamic Bank was awarded a license to operate as an Islamic commercial bank by the State Bank of Pakistan and the bank commenced commercial operations on February 19, 2007 with 6 branches, 5 in Karachi and 1 in Lahore.
Backed by leading UAE and Saudi sponsors and managed by a team of seasoned Islamic banking professionals, Emirates Global aimed to become the bank of choice in Pakistan. This was done by developing a robust Islamic banking operation, based on the tenets of Islam that prohibit Riba and promote sharing of risk and genuine profits through investments and permissible and productive business ventures. The business was characterized by a 60 branch network , centralized processing based on new technology,robust processes & systems, and a highly motivated human resource base.
In October 2010, EGIBL successfully merged with the Pakistan operations of a major Islamic International Bank
